Well I finally got time to do some hunting today, extra time is hard to come by for me and land to hunt on is minimal where I go to school. Even though my shotgun is lighter it still gets heavy. I had some paracord sitting around so I made myself a sling consisting of approximately 19 feet of paracord. One section is 12 feet and the other 7 feet.

My basement gun shop is almost done. Need the cupboard doors to be added on the right hand base. Then hardware and paint.

Love that sling coupedupsubie!

Any suggestions on an AR15 stock? Looking for something solid with storage to "complete" my AR.
Sounds like the standard A2 stock to me. Solid non-colapsable, 1/4" longer than the m4/carbine/magpul type, and had a place to put stuff. No wobble, good 'feels like it should' when shouldered.

Thanks I'll check one out, although I think I will probably stay with an adjustable just one that locks up solid and can hold a few batteries.

that's snazzy Nate!

edit: did you fix your fence yet?
Yes it is. From a fellow woodworker, nice job!

Now, onto gun stuff. After Christmas, I want to get a firearm. It will mostly be used for protection at the house. I started out wanting a Remington 870 shotgun, but seeing as an invasion is usually between 7-15 feet, I'm thinking pistol is the way to go? Thoughts? If I do go pistol, what should I go for if I have NEVER shot anything before? What is my budget you say? Well, about $350-$400.

Thanks guys. The pics don't do it justice. That thing is 12' long. Thinking about adding some more trim to the lower benches to give it more of a built in look.

I would recommend a Remington 870.. that's a great gun that falls in at the bottom of your price range. I wouldn't suggest to many full size hand guns in the $350 range. I think a handgun for HD use should be full size for good capacity, and be able to add a light to it.

yeah a pistol would work. It requires a little practice, more than long guns imho but nothing difficult you couldn't get the hang of with one of us. Since you're going to be using it for the home I recommend a fullsize, not a compact. They are more fun to shoot for long periods at the range, easier to control muzzle flip and recoil. Your accuracy is a lot better. You're a little limited in that price range but you'll find something that fits your hands well eventually. Hit the gun shops and Cabelas, avoid Cabela's used guns they are overpriced. Handle stuff. Ask the sales guy what they think. If your wife is going to use it have her go along and try stuff too. I went to 'buy' a pistol 4 times before I actually made a purchase.

Legal:

If you have young kids your gun has to be locked, and ammo has to be separate from gun. That defeats the purpose of having a gun ready for self defence but there are lock boxes out there that fit a gun or two and will open with your touch and only your touch.
