The unofficial GUN talk thread

nate, you'll have to let me know about the reliability in the mkIII 22/45. i'd heard it was poop, but i've had 10k+ rounds through my mkII target with minimal issues.

Shooting the Battle of the Bulge in Scarborough Sunday. Nervous. The 100 yard stage is a speed round. 25 rounds in 5 minutes. Tough to do with a bolt action and hit the target with iron peeps. Hopefully we're allowed to use stripper clips and have them pre-stacked.

What "reliability" issues have you heard of? I haven't heard of any. Most have very high reviews of the Ruger's. I would dare to say most issues would stem back to failure to feed issues from cheap ammo. I've put a bunch of cheapo ammo through it so far, and I have only had 2 FTF's. And it was only on the first round if I used the slide release to jack the round in from a new mag. Like I said it was cheap non-coated tip junk ammo, and it was only twice in the last 300 rounds. Not to mention this was right after buying it, and going out shooting without a good cleaning. The feed ramp was pretty gummed up. I put a couple hundred more through it this weekend without one hiccup.

Go get 'em inski!!! Good luck. When do you want to take a trip down to NH to the indoor range?

so i bought a gun today....super old iver johnson .22 8 shot....got it for 100 bucks, looks fairly clean and not used a lot, not a lot of wear marks and such. anyone have info on them

where is this? Scarborough fish and game?

Yeah, Scarborough Fish & Game. But I've decided to wuss out on this event. Snow and freezin rain by 8am, then some wicked rain and wind. I'm staying home. If it was all snow or sun I'd do it.

Matt I'll see what I can dig up. Nick at Evergreen collects .22s, he has 20 of them. Iver Johnson has been building guns forever. I haven't heard anything negative. A $100 .22 is always a ton of fun. check Cabelas and Mal-mart for the big (300+) boxes of ammo for less than $20.

edit

Matt, is this it?

I haven't tried one, but if you are concerned you can try it on my old Mossberg 22 before you use it on that wheelgun. the bluing has been neglected on this gun pretty badly.

How about rust removal/prevention. Took the M1 apart to see why it was misfeeding and besides dirt, there was a fair amount of surface rust on the un-oiled bits. The same with some of the parts on the outside of the gun as well...don't really want to cover the thing in oil as I do have to touch those parts.

So I did the coating last night and it came out decent. All the rust and pitting is gone. The blue remover worked awesome and after some fine sanding and steel wool I did the bluing. It was actually harder than I thought and had to re start because I left it on to long. 30 seconds means 30 seconds!!!! It's got nice tint to to it now and just need to touch up a spot but overall not bad for my first try. Now I just need to buy more guns to practice on!!!
