The unofficial GUN talk thread

Got out and put about 200 rounds through the Glock today. Smooth! Was shooting at 7 yards and could cover the groups with my palm. At about 40ft I was sticking them all on a 8" round. Not bad for getting used to the gun.

A friend of mine is looking for a good used (inexpensive) deer rifle. His wife is getting it as an Xmas present and asked my advice. I don't hunt deer, so I am looking to you guys for a recomendation.

My go-to would be a Rem700 as they can be had for little $$ used. but I am not sure on caliber. Either that or a Mosin Nagant. but I am not sure what ammunition is available in 7.62x54R that is suitable for hunting.

kinda depends on how he hunts....field hunting will need a higher caliber compared to brush hunting where something like a 30-30 would be great....my dad uses a .270 that's never let him down and ive alwasy like the 30-30 due to its smaller and light weight, easy for wooded/brush...the marlin has been in the family since the early 60's so its got a lot of sentimental value...

thanks man.. the rifle is built from 1943 parts, the tripod is 1944, also has the scope. The tripod will be my winter project, it's only missing a shoulder strap and one locking handle. Lots of painting to do!

sure is! I'll post a vid soon, I am finishing up some bipod parts for it, as it was missing some and the bipod can not be mounted yet.

Can't wait to see the video, I would pay good money just to shoot one! I remember in Florida there was a few places that you could go a fire a full auto mp5 off. (and in Utah too, Utahns love their guns!) Too expensive though, and I can do it for free with the Army heh.

This thing followed me home today...... it was staring at me in the window of the fun shop, like this

lol pedro... you are welcome to shoot it anytime.

It's a Vector Polish RPD. I'm working on a PKM style stock for it and an ammo can/drum with adaptor.

edit- Polish, not Bulgarian.. lol

That one as pictured, with 1 drum, 2 50rd belts, and a canvas drop bag- $2200.00

But It's a Vector, and they literally make the best. So it's worth every penny.

Holy Catfish! That looks like a ton of fun! Hopefully you can get surplus ammo for that wreckin machine. Need anyone to hold the belt while you're mowing trees with that?

you know it!!! lol... Most belt guns were a 2 man operation anyway. And I have thousands of rounds of 7.62.. so no worries
