The unofficial GUN talk thread

Welp, it's after the holidays, and I'm itching to kill some paper zombies. I say we finger out a date that works for all of us.

I just wanna fire my new Enfield...

All went good with the carbine rebuild except for the rear sight...she's only about halfway on, and that's as far as I seem to be able to get it. Bah!

pics?...lol

I've been itching for a Carbine for a while. I prefer to get one that is rough and ugly, so I can rework it, but I only seem to find nice ones for huge $$....

Well, iphone does not like dark pictures, but here she is:

I still need to pull it apart again for oiling and I need to oil up the stock, but overall I'm happy. Well, except for my issue with the rear sight...and the fact that I already lost the new slide stop spring. It shot across the room while I was putting the gun back together *doh!*.

Oh yea, inski (or anyone else with a carbine, I have the front sight removal tool if you ever need to pop off your front sight.

Sometimes the dove tails are tapered. Meaning they have a smaller opening on one side. Not sure if that's the case for your carbine. Mine (reproduction) has equal openings and slip right in and out when I experimented with the scope mount and red dot but its very similar looking to yours. Mine has a set screw that anchors the rear sight.

That will come to life once you oil the wood. I'm coming over to see it once its done.

Yea, this one is tapered. It's just reached a point where I need to stick the thing into a vice and tap the sight in with a brass punch or something. I was doing it with a block of wood and a hammer with it on the floor. I almost want to get the rear sight tool...but it's just too much money for something I'm going to use once and then never touch again.

Ok it's time to set up a MS shooting day. How about a tentative date of Sunday, February the 6th? I need to know who would be interested in going. Then I can call and try to arrange some time at Manchester Firing Line.

Sounds like fun...rifles allowed or just hand guns? I have a winchester 270 that I haven't fired in a while!

where be this place? i've been aching to get out the enfield 1917 and ruger mkII but the range is snowed in. nate you will have pm with my # for info

Its in Manchester NH. No specifics yet. Just looking to put together a list of interested (for sure) on going before I make a group reservation. Don't want to be embarrassed by showing up with 3 people if I reserve for 8.

i may be interested if i can get a ride with someone nearby. i know inski is only a couple towns over. if this pans out and someone nearby can tolerate me for the ride, pm me

edit: i read like crap, and was all excited thinking it was tomorrow. next time i'll have someone read it to me so my feeble mind can comprehend

Has anybody bought a rifle online? I was looking to pick up a Mosin, but the local prices are crazy all of a sudden.

Nate, I'm in +1, 2 total.

Pedro, let me know how that goes. Online prices are pretty attractive. I think all you need is to find a local FFL (another lic. firearms dealer) to do all the paper work, pay that guy $25-ish, pay seller the purchase price and shipping and you're all set.

Here are some FFLs for Maine.

I think KTP also does FFL transfers.

Also, Jwebsta32 is a FFL in Berwick, has his own operation/shop, and has Mosins, and is a Subaru knut. http://www.newenglandsubarus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10283&page=55

You should be able to get one for $80-$120. Sniper variants are $400+

Also, I think Luke has online buying experience.
