The unofficial GUN talk thread

If our schedules aren't conflicting this week maybe I'll take you up on the offer of trying the lc9, I'm ok with hammer fired, I'vee never really liked striker fired trigger pull.

Unrelated note, got a newer scope on the enfield, waiting to order the timney trigger, and hoping to find a better stock. Debating on trying to make one

I like my walther p99 40 cal just the right setup for me
Didn't even know anyone else on here had one.

I am considering a 9mm semi-auto handgun. What shops do you all go to?
Howells in gray and the stone gun shop in buckfield have been pretty good to me, j&k in west paris is pretty good too.

Stones is only open from 4-8 Friday Saturday and Sunday tho, guy took over his fathers bussiness just on the weekend

Nate what was the glock you had? G33? I was just browsing the shooters bible and saw g36 slimline, skinny, short and .45 sounds a bit like what I was looking for, anyone tried one?

We just celebrated easter by shooting a bunch of peeps stapled to a piece of plywood, the game the whole family can play!

Howells has some very helpful staff. Cabelas can be a mixed bag.

I buy sale ammo and some reloading stuff at cabelas.

Everything else KTP or Howell's

Cabelas is great if you know just what you want and it's easy to find, I'd never buy a gun there after the 2 hour long fiasco my dad went through to get my sisters rifle a year ago. Do paperwork and the guy says yeah it'll be a bit, and nobody said we had to wait at the end of the counter for them to figure out what they were doing. Oh well, in theory I have too many guns as it is so I don't need to buy any more... yet

Just took a blow to the head on the way home that put gun buying plans on hold. Fozzy has stuck caliper and rotors are toast, and since I don't want my fiance to crash and burn I suppose I should pay to fix that *grumble*

The background check takes time... usually 30min to an hour. but you don't have to sit there. 2 hours is kinda long. By that point you should get a response, good to go or flagged.then you have to wait a couple days if you get flagged, or never. The store only gets a go or no go... no info as to why.

I have bought plenty of guns. The check should take no more then 10 minutes. That included filling out the paperwork. They call in, read some info, and get an answer of a proceed, or not proceed right away. 2 hours of way out of line. Don't buy a gun at Cabelas anyway, chances are you are paying way too much. Support local businesses that want/need your money. Better prices, and service.

So a little bit of progress on my Mosin Nagant scout rifle project. I cleaned up the dovetail to prep it for Touch up bluing, and scope rings. Then I shortened the barrel. I took about 12"off. Its now 17" and ready for the lathe work I'm going to be doing to it. I will be recrowning it, then turning the taper off the end in preparation for the custom muzzle break. Here is a picture. More to follow as it happens.

put a good crown on that son'behatch and you will have a good shooter if the bore is fine. just a few 100 fps slower/weaker... (500 or so?)

still take out anything in the Maine wood at less than 400 yards. Just don't use FMJ.

Cabelas gun prices are a mixed bag. I have bought guns there for 100$ lower than any one could touch on sale. at the same time I have seen used guns there for <10% less than new... you really need to look around. plus I get 20% off coupons some time from them. so a gun for 100 less than others with 20% off is hard to say no to...

I got 7.62 39r ammo there for less than 0.25 a pop. cant touch that anywhere else.

on a side note has anyone tried the new "tracer" shogun ammo? from fiocchi?

I went to L.L.Cote's in Erroll, NH this afternoon, and put a few different guns in my hand. Left my credit cards and $$$$ at home.

I didn't like the Glock. From what I've read I suspect that may have been a Gen3. I didn't ask about that. The grip felt too "square".

The others were all pretty close to the same. There was one that felt like it had a little more rounded grip. I think it was a Stoeger cougar. In a way it kind of added to the confusion. But they weren't very busy, and were quite patient with me.

They also have a couple of awesome 10/22's. They had laminated stocks with stainless breech and barrel. One stock was brown shades. One was black/gray. They were pretty as hell!

Yah I'm not worries about making this thing crazy accurate over 150-200 yards, although I'm sure it will be plenty capable. Seeing that I plan on adding a long-eye relief scope, I doubt it will have the magnification to get me out that far anyway. The method to my madness was a project for fun (I like to tinker) that was going to net me a cheap plinker rifle that's fun to shoot, and also can double as a hunting rifle too.

I'm diving deep into the research on building the custom muzzle brake for this puppy. Its the part I'm the most excited about. I can't wait to see what I can come up with. Hopefully I can diminish the felt recoil significantly. Should make for more pleasant shooting. Right not with how light I have made this gun, it kicks like a mule.
