The unofficial GUN talk thread

John, I love LL Cote. I went this winter during their buy one get one half off sale. I went with no money.

Nonetheless I got some cheap ammo. I'd love to get a 10/22 like stainless's heavy-hogue combo. Heavy barrel 10/22 with a sticky Hogue stock.

Nate, come show me when you get the next step done.

LL Cote owns. Went there during NEFR.

You can buy sandwiches, food, power tools, fireworks, guns, video games, fishing boats, atvs, curtains, and everything else inbetween there. The place is wild, has everything you need after driving through mountains and trees for the past hour.

I like the idea of the bull barrel 10/22, but I don't like the scope only option. My 22 shooting would be fine with open sights, I believe. They also have a 10/22 in stainless with synthetic stock. Not the hogue stock, but nice just the same. They have a HUGE assortment. I hadn't been in awhile, and I usually try to stay downstairs.

Anyone ever refinished the wood on an old gun? I've tried finding something to fit my enfield and can't find wood or synthetic that doesn't cost more than the gun is worth. Right now it's some ugly tanish yellow and I want to go darker. Anyone have a reccomended plan of approach?

^ got it sanded down, filled in the old sling mount holes ( had 2 screw permanently fixed metal loops) so I can have new style mounts, got it stained today, just need to poly. Before and after pics to come ( when I can find a computer to use)

So here is the Mosin with the new scout scope setup mocked up on it. Its utilizing a small dovetail for the amount of recoil the gun makes, so I'm going to try and figure out a way to help the mount stay in place with more then just the clamp screws.

I'll be building the muzzle break this weekend. Hopefully I can do some sighting in this weekend.

Looks like your scope bells are bigger than ours, hence the risers. Looks great, tactical-ish.

My new toy before they change the capacity laws on us.

Little off target here but anyone got any suggestions on a concealed holster for a glock 22 looking for under wasteband for I never wear belts

Had some time today to finally recrown the barrel and thread the end for the muzzle brake. Can't wait to get it done. Hopefully this week. Here are a couple quick pics from our process today.

I remounted the scope now with locktite. I'm going to try and find a place to bore sight the gun, then I'll finish sighting it in tomorrow.

Well I spent a few hours shooting yesterday with a bunch of people. We had a variety of guns, from .22 to .308 to a S&W 500 magnum(I didn't shoot it, if you've seen me you would know why). Overall good day, did some competition style stuff. I need to buy my own pistol or revolver so I don't have to use others.

Well I finally got the stock to my enfield finished. Hit it with minwax special walnut stain, and six coats of satin poly. Looks beautiful! Dark enough to not stand out while in a tree and that stain really made the grain more pronounced.

Only problem is that thr old dry rotted recoil pad crumbled to dust when I took it off, I was thinking about getting a limbsaver recoil pad since the length of pull is a touch short and all that cushiness should feel good and adjust the lop. Does anyone know of any other recoil pds that take the bite put of shooting but won't kill my wallet like the $50 limbsaver?

So I got the gun bore sighted and went and finished tweaking it in a bit more today. This was the first time I shot it since the barrel chop, and DAMN does this thing shoot a fireball. Even in daylight. Haha I love it.

Now with lack of muzzle brake I was done after 20 shots, but I feel fairly comfortable with the results. Once the brake is on and I can get a better more stable resting place for the gun (today was a tad makeshift) I think I will be able to get it even better. I was sighting it in at 45 yards and half power the scope. Here's a picture of the target so you can see my progression towards the bullseye. Kinda want to get it zeroed in more then start shooting it on steel at 150 yards.

Nate were do you shoot 150 yrds? Scarborough gun club?

I think I am going to suck it up and py the $$$ to Join royal river in Gray.

The though of having to shoot through "tubes" at 100 yards and being stuck with 2 set distances (100 and 25 yrds) does not make me any more excited but now that Falmouth is closed it is the closest place to shoot.

Guess it is still cheaper than Greens fees for (ball) golf (not disc golf though!)

You should also find that your shots "string out" less as the barrel heats up.

I am also uber jealous that you have access to a lathe...
