The unofficial GUN talk thread

Gotta give a thumbs up to these Barricade rust protection cloths too. They're more or less saveed my Mossberg, which sits out in the open in the corner of my room in my rather humid house. She was having quite the rust problem till I applied that stuff. Used it on the carbine and the Enfield too.

May be picking up a Ruger P85
I owned one of those for awhile, and sold it to a member in here. Great pistol, but you need big hands to use it. ( you shouldn't have a problem). Post up some pics once you have it.

So I figure I should toss up some pics of the new additions top the AR. And yes I need a camera...

There is a recall for those. Ruger will fix it for free if it hasn't already been done. Nice rugged piece. Just about every dealer has used and new mags for that. My p95 accepts all P-series 9mm mags, probably will work vise-versa if you get one. Some of the P95 stainless mags are 17rd, not 15rd as advertised. Also, the Ruger PC-9 mags will work. A rugged Ruger carbine many Police units have in the trunk.

I believe the repaired ones have etched into them "MKII" or something like that.

And that inski and I want in our gun cabinets
But they are $600. that's close to AR coin, so for that money might as well dream about a Spike's Tactical.

NATE!!

Pretty snazzy! I really like that foregrip and sites. Sexaayyy! Looks like a bundle of fun.

How do you like the AFG, Nate? I'm thinking about one for my 15-22. Eventually I want to Hydro-Dip it with some type of tan based camo. If I do that, I think I want a Dark Earth color fore-grip so I'm holding off getting the grip.

I love it. Its really not meant to be used on such a short forend. But for me it's SUPER comfortable. If I ever ditch the A2 post/gas block and go with a longer free float forend it will def make the transfer over, and maybe move more to the front. But I really like it. Come shoot it sometime. Judge for yourself.

I like to build ARs as a hobby because simply hoarding them wasn't enough. I had my fill of 5.56 ARs in the Army for 6 years so I don't get too horny over them. I do enjoy odd chamberings and that is why out of my 3.5 uppers I have 4 different calibers.

top to bottom: Stripped SAA lower, SAA lower with cheapo 4 position collapsible stock, SAA lower with a Yankee Hill Machine 9mm upper and Magpul FDE furniture, Delaware M&T lower with surplus A1 stock and upper in the works for a 16" .50 bewulf to use for mah dur huntin rahful, Sharps lower with 16" midlength BCM barrel and upper using a CMT BCG and YHM free float tube, and lastly an SAA lower with a ATI/Safir T-14 upper and magpul furniture. The t-14 is a .410 semiauto that operates like the old Auto-5 shotguns. It actually works quite well and it pretty fun. I also own an unconverted Saiga that I use to bird hunt and shoot skeet with as well as other various rifles shotguns and pistols. I hope to build a 6.5 or 6.8 rifle (whatever meets the price criteria at the build time) and an AR pistol to convert into an SBR. All of my optics are cheap primary arms sights because I am not a delta force operator and they work well enough to shoot paper, birds, and squirrels without costing the price of a new gun or a set of tires, or a whole bunch of heating fuel.

How do you feel about 6.8spc for deer hunting? I would like to build a new upper for my S&W with either an 18" or 20" barrel in 6.8spc. Looking for max of 200 yard with a round that can drop a bambi. Also not looking to build an AR10 haha.

Or... I've also been looking at the new 300 blackout. Love the 30 cal round, but I think that was designed to work with shorter suppressed barrels, and short range shooting. Not going to work with deer hunting imho.

And what do you have for an optic on the bottom gun? Comp M2? Comp M3? Looking for an aimpoint myself.

My dad did a ton of research for the 6.8, and that's what my sister hunts with now in a g2 contender. Has almost no recoil, looks almost like a .243

Well 6.8 has the marketing but it was designed for short barrels. Not to say it wouldn't work for deer hunting, it does, but it's optimal use is for higher energy levels out of a shorter barrel. 6.5 is the less marketed but better round. It is supersonic longer than .308 I believe. To be honest, if you are not a long range rifle shooter and will be hunting within the 300 yard range, I think either would do fine. the .300 suppressed rounds are awesome but pointless without the suppressor. The bottom guns optic is an Aimpoint M3 clone that runs for like 70 bucks or so from www.primaryarms.com They good cheap optics. They will tell you they are not 'war' grade sights but are plenty good enough for recreation. If you want a real deal aimpoint, get the PRO. It is 400 bucks and has all the good things that make Aimpoints awesome. If I cared enough to spend money on optics I would go with Aimpoint over other red dots and holosights. High quality optics and the PRO is a fantastic price.

In short: Aimpoint PRO for 400 bucks is the best bang for your buck. 6.8 is marketed very well but not quite as good as the 6.5. More than capable for deer hunting. Cheap optics are great if you really don't beat on your guns too much.

Also Nate I went to 911 schools with dispatch people from the LA area, so we probably are only 1 or 2 people removed from each other at most hah, not that I know them at all, just went to school with them.
