The unofficial GUN talk thread

I wonder if chief will let me make my Glock full auto

Just wondering if anybody has tried the super colibri .22 lr rounds? If not-you should. My buddy thought I put a silencer on my .22 conversion Bushmaster. 500fps,but they are just about silent. Hitting a piece of sheetrock at 30 yds is louder than the actual shell going off. I got a couple boxes down at Cabelas (where I said I would never go again after the Mosin nightmares). $5 for 50 rounds is a bit steep, but I think they were worth it. I grabbed one of the $200 S&W .22 target pistols a couple weeks ago,not as quiet as the rifle, but still a big difference. Also, unlike the CB shorts, they will feed thru the rifle and pistol mag just fine. I wouldnt trust them for a defense round, but a squirrel or woodchuck found to be guilty of trespassing would have some worries for sure. Now if those KNS crosshair sights would get here.....

Be extra cautious about squibs. With little noise and recoil it can be very hard to tell if you get one. Couple this with semi auto fire and uh oh! As far as defense goes, the smallest acceptable defensive round is .380. Anything less than that just will not cut it for one reason or another.

Silenced and Sub-sonic .22 is the choice of many countries for close range sniping. Pretty sure I wouldn't want to catch one in the forehead. Although, I'd def prefer .223 or .243 I guess it depends on the job. .22 can be quieted down a lot more than .223 and if you're inside a courtyard or large room or plaza the potential for going undetected with .22 is a lot greater than silenced .223-.308

If you were shot in the gut with a 9mm or .380 I doubt you could tell the difference. You'd hate .380 just as much as 9mm or .40

As far as defensive calibers are concerned, they need to penetrate reliably, cycle reliably, and fire reliably. Shot placement trumps everything else. A .380 will do all three requirements, the rounds just have to go to the right spot. I own a .380 and if it wasn't pink and my wifes, I would carry it. I am thinking of getting another for myself. I like how tiny it is. My 9mm, .40, and .45 all have their place but there is something about that tiny little pocket pistol that I like.

I really want a suppressor though so I can get a single shot .22 and kill ground hogs that infest my yard. I just don't have a local FFL with the class III SOT stamp on his license.

As far as tiny pistols, I love my lc9. Once I practiced a bit I found it's pretty accurate and I forget I'm carrying sometimes

Yes,that is my biggest worry, not having the round clear the barrel, but luckily, the rounds don't cycle the action,so any attempts a rapid fire aren't of much use, plus with ther low noise, you hear the hit. As for REAL self defense,I have my HK USP tactical .45 with 3 clips of golden sabers,or if Im feeling mean, the .50 Deagle comes along for a ride, with 7 of his 380 gr. friends.

I shot semi-organized skeet for the first time today, thord time ever shooting clay pidgeons. Aafter I ran out of shells the old timers said good you won't put us to shame anymore. Truglo fiber optic sights ftw

Frankly the argument of whether or not I would want to be shot with a .380 holds no bearing on whether its effective or not. Will is hurt? Heck yah. Will is kill you? Sure. Will a BB gun kill you? Sure, if it hits you in the right spot. Does the round balistically have the capability of penetrating and incapacitating someone the same as a service caliber. NOPE. Also take into consideration that typically the guns are unreliable, miserable to shoot, and cheap. Only bonus to me is that the size makes it easily concealable. But with the market shifting to new small (pocket-able) 9mm pistols. I see no reason to sell yourself short.

Simply put. If you are counting on shot placement to save your life at a time when you need it. You will be up shitscreek. (To me) you need to carry a gun that is chambered in a round that will take a persons willingness to fight away. You are not trying to kill anyone. You just want them to stop what they are doing, and stop dead in their tracks. You don't want them to keep fighting after, because you just never know if they will be spending that time shooting back at you.

I carry everyday all the time (except when not permitted) and you would be hard pressed to find my 9mm on me. Its small, 100% reliable, and service caliber.

^ my beer gut makes it impossible to see the profile of mine in my belt. And I'd never carry anything smaller than 9mm. If I could get a .45 the same size as the lc9 for the same price, I'd have it. I'd rather stop someone with one oversized round for the job than 7 9mm's or have to reload the 380 to get the same effect

I don't disagree that a larger caliber is better, I just set the bar at .380 or better. Capacity also is a huge factor which is why I usually go with 9mm over .45. Shot placement trumps caliber though, regardless. If you don't hit the vitals, you are just wasting ammo.

Oh jeez in that case awesome. I would totally carry a gold nitride finish with black tiger stripes on the desert eagle (like this: http://www.galleryofguns.com/ProdImageSm/DE50TG-TS.jpg)
Well,I can say, that if you ever carried it,you probably would only do it on "special" occasions. I have to use a rear belt holster, and big shorts or BDUs.Plus it weighs about 4 pounds empty. Also,I had the tiger stripe first,it came with the wooden presentation case and all that. I opened it up,realized that a pimp I'm not,and sold it. I got mine in black chrome, and wish I had done regular matte blued. Its not a fun thing, trying not to scratch it..etc. Also,if you were to buy one,do yourself a favor and buy a .44 or .357 barrel and mag at the same time. $44 a box for shells, and the lack of stores that carry it is a big pain. I need to get the dies so I can handload them.

Id be interested to have a MS gun meet somewhere. Soundss like a lot of you guys have some fun toys.

haha I would only own one as a joke or gimmick. I had a judge for a while that I reloaded confetti into the shells for giggles but really didn't use it for anything else. I really want a Ruger SR1911. I could never stomach the price tag on nice 1911s but the ruger appears to have a high quality fit and finish for a great price. It leaves me with more money for other cool toys.

Ahhh, I never thought about that. Just always thought about how nice/cool it would be having a .50Desert Eagle. Good point. $44/box wouldn't be much fun.
