The unofficial GUN talk thread

They had a shoot this winter at the indoor range in new hampster.

I was just thinking we should post describing our favorite firearm, past or present, and why. Anyone care to start, mine's moderately lame

OK,Ill go. 1941 Johnson. I was fortunate enough to have fired one a while back, and kick myself for not buying it. $2500 sounded SO expensive back then. Now they are upwards of $5500! 30/06, super quick to handle, and that internal drum magazine. My favorite that I own would be my Armalite AR-10. Soon to be a flattop, has a stainless bull barrel,Miculek comp,Mccormick trigger job,few internal reliability upgrades, and 10 or 12 factory mags. Its in .308,Id love to go with a wild off the wall caliber, but that damned ammo price starts peeking around the corner, and I like to shoot too much.Someday Ill have my .416.

I like the sounds of that AR-10. that's exactly what I want some day in an AR.

Present rifle I like the most is my Marlin 336 30-30. It was passed down to me. I've got a couple trophies with it. It fits me perfect with its thin profile and I love the weight, nothing feels hollow. Its classy lever, yet tricky...no safety. STill hitting 1" groups at 100yds off the bench.

Winchester model 255 hammerless llever action 22mag. Father and grandfather got it for me when I was 12 and really into westerns and wanted a lever action 30-30. I used to shoot tacks out of my targets at 50 yds to piss off my friends who can't shoot for crap. In a close second is what used to be my grandfathers savage model 99 (unsure what submodel) in 300 savage. Rotary mag hammerless lever, round counter on the side so you can tell at a glance how many shots you have left.

so I hear a lot of ar talk, but does anyone here have much experience with the ruger minis? kinda curious

I want to try my hand with one of those DIY hydro-dip kits. As well as a couple other modifications. Does anyone have a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 they want to part with?

Go to Kittery Trading post and buy one of the used plastic stocks to try it on. they are like $10.

Cote's is probably my best bet. I'm sure they have something new. I'm going to go there and see if they have anything used. They are only about an hour away from me. I'd like something pretty cheap, so if I screw up the dipping, I won't feel too bad. I'm also thinking a short barrel and possibly pistol grip. So with those additional costs, I really want to start pretty low.

I saw KTP had a couple of used ones for $140-$165. Long drive, though.

I owned one of the new style ones and it was fun and I enjoyed shooting it but it doesn't do anything the AR can't do while doing nothing that the AR can.

I once stood with one pointing to the sky, an unlit Braniff No 3; and said "I love it when a plan comes together"

but that is about the extent.

OK gentleman: Hi-point 9mm Carbine or Kel-Tec sub2K?

I want something for "plinking", I have a Springfield XD 9mm now, so I can buy large boxes of ammo. I'm also thinking this would be a great sub-carbine for my Wife for now. Then later on I'd like to save some $ and get a "AR" of some sorts (Ruger 556,FAL,Mini 14, Etc.)

dude. get the Kel-Tec SU-16. They are like $400 at KTP it is .223 takes AR mags, folds up nicely. I was pretty impressed when I looked at them.

My vote is for the Sub 2k. If you want a .223 plinker just save up for an AR. Doesn't get better then that.

Anyone interesting in buying an Elzetta ZFH1500 flash light mount for their AR? Ive decided to change what I have and go a different direction. Its designed to work in conjunction with the A2 post/front sight. This is basically BRAND NEW, and is the model with the quick release thumb screw. I can toss in the Surefire G2 LED light also if interested. Both are brand new. $25 for the mount (new is $30-$35 plus shipping), and i'll toss in the light for $50 more if interested.
