The unofficial GUN talk thread

yeah.......that's just friggin wrong. theres no need of a tactical stock on a 94, I think a scout scope is plenty.

Anyone know what a Reminton 870 Tactical PD model might be worth? Far as I can tell it's a normal tactical with a parkerized finish and metal trigger guard. Got it's share of scrapes and scuffs, ghost ring sights and sling mounts. He's asking $400, but hell I can get a new 870 tactical non-PD for ~$330.

Just buy a new one...
X2

When I owned mine I bought a Full synthetic black stock *70 Express for $300. Just look around, or look for a Mossberg 500. That's what I currently own, with 18.5” and 26” barrel with standard and pistol grip. It is a little sloppier in the fitment, but I've had fewer problems with it. I had feed issue with the 870.

You can get a mossberg 590 for $400 new... Or could last I checked.

I only read this last page but I just realized that I need to set my reloading stuff back up. I have a 550b progressive press and I used to do combat action pistol shooting in northern Maine. My buddy shoots too and he loads with a single stage lee press. I should see whats up with my other friends rcbs rock chucker since its just sitting rusting away. We used to make all sorts of bullets. Yup, definitely time to invest a little bit of effort into the shooting stuff.

List of cartridges I've reloaded:

357 mag

30.06

25.06

300 wsm

357 Sig

40 s&w

444 marlin

223

Im sure im missing something but that's what I remember. its been a few years. I think the best improvement was the 444. The other rifles all went down to 1/2" groups at 100 but that wasnt as drastic as an improvemt as the 444. With the reloads and a 1-4 variable power scope, you could hit a soda can at 115 yards off hand all day long. The gun just acted so much better. I'm thinking they were hornady 340 gr xtp (sounds right in my head) and I have no idea about the powder. Maybe AA9 or something.

The first ones we did were 357mag dumbed down to about a 38+p or so and we made 3 and shot them into a log in my friends basement right in the middle of Bath. Apparently upstairs it only sounded like someone hitting a block of wood with a hammer. Gotta love heavy old houses. Too much fun.

I dig my 590. Paid $380 for it with ghost ring sights.

I already have a Mossberg 500 26" barrel and factory wood I'm thinking by time I put a stock 18" barrel and sights. And light rail I can probably buy a used one already built for close to the same money. Plus then I'll have 2 shotguns.

Got my 94 today.start ordering scout parts thursday when I get paid. Found a forward mount, just need to decide what I'm doing for optics

Funny, I've been eye ballin shotguns too since I couldn't find any AR bargains at the gun show. G3 in auburn just sold out of their used police 870s. They got 10 (?) from a police auction, gone in 2 weeks.

I just have to figure out which, if any, semi-autos can be outfitted with an extended tube mag so I can carry 8 shells.

sounds like fun!

How do you guys feel about the WASR-10?

Im looking to buy an assault rifle before the election, mainly before another assault weapon ban is put forth.. stripping us of more rights...

AR's are out of my price range, at least for right now. So please, if you can.. Refrain from the "just get an ar"

Just get an AR.... Sorry couldn't resist...

An AK is not a bad purchase. You can have a lot of fun with it, and basically for cheap. Ammo can be found really anywhere, and bought in bulk surplus. The guns will cycle anything, are easy to maintain, and have a decent aftermarket support for modifications and replacement parts.

But.... It's still not an AR.

Blmpkm, or an sks. Those are cheap, fun and lots of aftermarket supplies for them. Not as good in several respects as an ak (being top eject for one) but cheaper.

The way I look at it there is ALWAYS a way to go cheaper. All these guns should be bought for what they are, NOT a replacement for something else. Because lets face it, the cheaper variation just isn't the real thing.

Buy and AK to have an AK. Buy and AR to have an AR. Buy an SKS to have an SKS. That's all fine and dandy. But to me and SKS isn't an AK, an AK isn't an AR...

If you really want something, then save the money to buy it. You will feel much better when you finally get it.
