Don't buy one cheap, just to buy cheap. Remember, you get what you pay for. Save you pennies for a little bit, and make the investment. What are you buying it for? Carry? home protection? Weekend fun shooting? All those will factor into your choice. Just saying: "I want a 9mm. What should I get?" Is like saying: "I want black shoes. What should I buy?"

thanks nate. I'm looking for home protection and weekend shooting. We qualify with the "M9" for the air force, not sure what brand it is, but it's easy to shoot and maintain/clean. something comparable to that.

Did a little tinkering to my Glocks today. Swapped out all the trigger bars from factory 6lbs, to Lonewolf 3.5lbs trigger bars. Nice light pulls now, want to take them all to the range and try them out.

Also I'll have pics soon, I plan on Duracoating one (to start) of the Glock frames out. Think I'll do my Glock 17 first to see how I like it.

Beretta 92FS

If you are comfortable with that, I would suggest getting one. You can probably bag a used unit for $300-400 $Dollarbucks$

You ever tinker with gsg -5 ? I want to replace all screws but think its over my head I did order hk pins to replace all outer screws

Berretta M9... Not a bad gun. But there are better choices. You could always try to find a M9 if that's what your are comfortable with.

Ideally what is your budget? I typically try to steer folks towards the Polymer guns. Most brands have one. Glock, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory all offer guns in 9mm, .40S&W, and in different frame sizes. All those guns NEW will run you around $500. They are easy to maintain, shoot, are reliable, and simple to operate. You just need to find the one that fit your hand best. I like Glock, but that's me. Some hate the Glock grip angle.

No... I never have. I mean I'm sure we could figure it out. Look up a "how to" on Youtube. Or work slow and pay attention of how it all comes apart. Don't just rip and tear. You'll never remember how all the parts go back together.

My roommate carries a Ruger LCR .357. He added a Crimson trace Laser grip to it. He loves it. I've shot it in both .38spl, and .357. Its a handful in the full strength. I would feel more then comfortable carrying it with .38spl +p. Would make an AWESOME car/truck gun. But (to me) the cylinder makes it a little thick for carry. He's built right to carry what ever he wants and hides it well. But in the holster, the cylinder basically sits right at your belt.

I hate to disagree with you here. But if he knows the thing inside and out, can strip and asseble blindfolded; it is perfect for him to start. They don't lose value like some of the newer stuff.

Most def.. 92sf isn't a horrible gun at all. That's why I said If that's what he's comfortable with, then get one. Lot of Military guys get them because of nostalgia. Just like the 1911 guys getting one cause they carried one. There is something to be said about that.

But for the guy looking to buy a gun, and has never shot one. I wouldn't recommend a 92sf to them.

Your Beretta is near the top.

This is one guy's list, other's lists are slightly different and different order but many of the same guns are included. Generally speaking the guns of the same model in different calibers shoot just as well. I recommend you look into medium or full size guns because some of the fun at the range is lost with compact guns imho. Head over to your familiar gun shop during off hours when its not crowded, like a weekday mid afternoon, and just start talking with the guy and handle all the guns. Get what feels good for you.
