The unofficial GUN talk thread

Here's an option... Buy a belt. Once you decide to start carrying, you need to dress to do it right. Securing the gun into your body not only makes it safer (less likely to fall out if you had to run), but easier to conceal. A nice stiff (non department store belt) really helps keep that gun where you want it. You have to figure... You may not need a belt to hold your pants up. But the belt isn't as much for your pants as it is for supporting the weight of your gun.

As far as locations of carry and what-not I have decided an IWB holster that I can place anywhere or a straight up small of the back with an extra magazine holder. I am the last one in my family to get a concealed carry permit so I have had the chance to see where I like to have the gun. I have a belt that I wear a lot that is tough as nails and sturdy so that's not a problem. I just need to find the gun that fits me. For reliable fit I have ruled out the P238 because it just doesn't sit in my hand comfortable. I liked the size of the PM40 but not the double action. It is most likely I just need more time shooting one. I spend way too much time shooting clays.

Go tape something gun sized to the small of your back, and then go sit in a chair or in your car. You will quickly see that it isn't such a great idea.

Location of carry is a very personal choice. But lots of factors come into play. Size of gun, shape of body, carry philosophy, comfort level, training, and plain and simple finding a place that will make you carry EVERYDAY!! Lets face it. If you swear by a full size Glock 21 (.45acp) and you are sold on IWB carry. I have a feeling like you wont really carry it everyday. You have to be shaped just right to comfortably carry a gun of that size stuck in your pants. If you have a gun that ends up in your glove box, or left on your night stand then what good is it doing you there? Buy a gun, and find a place to carry it so that it's with you all the time, everyday (where legal). NOTE: By all means carry a big gun if you can. I wish I could, but for me it's not an option.

You have to also understand that practice is KEY! Most guns that make good carry guns are NOT always fun, or comfortable to shoot. Get that gun and practice with it.

I have IWB carry options for ALL of my Glocks. But since I bought my Kahr, i don't typically carry those guns anymore. It's just easier to carry the Kahr every time. And to me it's the most important thing.

THIS!!! Honestly stick an unloaded gun in different areas, and get in and out of your car a few times. You will see where you can carry. I wouldn't recommend SOB carry to anyone, but that's just me.

Good point what u guys suggest for a glock I have the glock21 kinda big maybe time to trade for something more carryable

It doesn't HAVE to be a glock. If I were out looking for a conceal and carry pistol, I would look for something smaller and very easily concealable (obviousy) but something still big enough that it wouldent be an issue to ACCURATELY shoot and something not sooo small you just end up fumbling with it trying to remove from holster (or even reload)

Ruger LC9. Great for carry. Crazy long single action trigger. I do love it. You will have to practice a lot to get used to it.

I have a glock now but it is large , I def don't want a subcompact ther just too small I got big hands lol

I liked carrying the LC9 super thin, sized just right. Owned one for a bit. Although I did (finally) shoot enough to get used to the mile long DAO trigger, I think in the back of my head I always wanted the Kahr. So when a new Kahr CM9 hit the market finally i jumped on one as soon as my local gun shop could get one. The LC9 was 100% reliable though over 700+ rounds. I mean NEVER failed to feed or eject anything.

If you want something single stack easy to conceal but not too small. Take a look at a Kahr CW9. It's the slightly bigger brother to the CM9 that I carry. Another inch longer in the grip and slide. Carries more ammo, But still small enough, and think enough to carry IWB comfortably. And about $400-$450 new. If you find one slightly used you can get them all day long for $350-$400. Great value guns.

Not to sound stupid... but I am, so I'll ask.... what does IWB stand for? (Internal Waist Band is what I'm guessing from the context so far?)
