The unofficial GUN talk thread

Found a basic "Shotguns 101" course at SigArms Academy in Epping, NH. Everything is included in the course, including rental of shotgun and ammunition. $195 for 8 hour course. I might sign up for this in April.
List of local clubs. It might be old but many links still work. http://www.themainehuntingguide.com/gunclub.html some near you http://www.scarfg.org/twiki/bin/view/ <---scarborough http://www.ssfga.com/ <---sanford http://www.nycrg.org/ <---North York County http://www.sbrga.org/ <----berwick
Scubiecraig if you are interested I am licensed hunter/firearms instructor in Vermont. I am also a bowhunting and trapping instructor. I can certainly run you through the basics at no charge. I have plenty of firearms to bring and you can decide for yourself what you like! I have taught over a thousand students in the past few years and never had an accident.

I'll bring you a case of your favorite beer in exchange for lessons... of course, you can't drink them until AFTER shooting! lol

Alright guys, In a few weeks im gonna buy a WASR..

The furnature and stocks on WASR's are a lil haggard and have a sub par finish on them. If I remove all the wood, give it all a good sand and stain it, how much could that possibly fetch in unc. Henrys? Just for the wood. Im planning on replacing the front end with an aluminum job and adding a folding/ collapsable stock. Instead of just tossing the old wood, I figured it wouldent be a bad idea to give myself a afternoon project and recoup a few $$ as I have sooo much random stain laying around haha

I wouldnt stain it,just get it smooth, and let the buyer decide what color to stain it.Let me know when you get it,I like AK parts...hahaha

Aimpoint. But I have a soft spot for them...

Ok,so I drank too much beer last night, and wasnt able to pick up the flattop upper....Im going in half an hour. Here is a "before" (its the carbine in the middle)Has a UTG-good for the price- quad rail, and a streamlight light/NV illuminator now, with a junk laser. Tomorrow,it will be an optic ready M4!

so, tax returns are going to be bigger than I thought, looking at getting a 8th rifle. looking for reccomendations. idealy, I'd like something compact, lightweight, accurate and sub $700, in a caliber that will reach out and touch somebody and carry decent energy ( .243, .308, 30-06, 300win)

OK,back from buying the upper...went a little different than planned....$550 later: my carbine has a new sister!

Came with an extended charging handle,a YHM freefloat tube, and a couple flash hiders... 1 1/2 boxes fired....I think I did OK...

called howells today, s&w m&p 15, sporter I think he said, flip up rear sight, fixed front, $669. might be joining the ar club soon

DPMS also makes an econo line AR15 called the oracle I believe. I'm sure they are still the same great shooting gun as any other AR. But just missing a few things. Dust cover, and forward assist are a couple major differences. Just so you know what you are getting in to. You can always swap that upper for a milspec one later.

I'm not really concerned about a dust cover, for what I'd be doing with it, as long as it shoots straight I'd be happy. it would only be a coyote/ woodchuck gun. got my '94 sighted in at about 80 yards today. absolutely love the forward scope/ lever action combo. that with the cartridge makes it fun to shoot with little recoil (compared to my enfield 30-06). next full moon hopefully I'll slay some coyotes behind my dads house with it

Is it a Made in Maine Bushmaster??
Yeah, one of the last ones I guess. His trouble with the herters is now my trouble with lake city(hard to feed, and one of my aftermarket 40 rounders wont fit right...)...I switched bolts with my old carbine, and the problem seemed to go away, and didnt show up in the old XM15..strange. The new bolt is shaped different on the bottom than my old one. Ill post some pics when I take them back apart tomorrow. I soaked it with oil,and still no change.Maybe Ill just run them with each other's bolts. Also, just to know, what did your charging handle cost? (mine has the same one) And my free float isn't YHM,I saw a package from a YHM handguard at his place, and figured it was the one on mine, but isn't. Either way,I think $550 for the whole thing was a pretty good price. I got the day off from plowing tomorrow,so im going to spend the day doing some gun cleaning,rearranging..etc. Ill get th ARs figured out,and take some "from the basement" shooting.

I was checkin that one out also. Pretty decent rifle for the money. Also, at Dicks, they have a entry level from a major manufacturer (I cant remember who made it). It has a flat top without a rear site and an aluminum railed fore grip. Similar to the S&W, not dust cover, no forward assist, less aggressive barrel twist 1:9 for the .223 rounds. chrome lined barrel 700-ish. Not bad. Was not sure if it was 5.56mm and .223. I dismissed it due to the heavy front end and non-milspec features

Might be worth bringing it to Maine-Tactical aka Maine Police and Fire in Scarborough. That guy builds and repairs and sells ARs all day long. He might know right away what the issue is. Might be worth checking the head space. He might have bolts on hand also. Definitely a nice investment, pretty sick deal at 550.
Nate, which sling mount is that? Swivel?

Any reason why I shouldn't get a Hogue pistol grip? I love Hogue everything. Thinking about a Hogue lunch box and Hogue underwear.

It's a Noveske QD sling attachment. I use a Gear Sector single point sling.

No.. The Hogue grip I'm sure is very good. So I can't see any reason to not get one. I've heard plenty of good things about the Hogue underwear, so try those too.
