das GL!

So today I was in Damariscotta, as I was getting out of the car some guy walked by and said "That's one badass ride you have there!" and gave me a thumbs up.

Awesome!!! I knew you took pics!! Yeah I'm thinkin pretty seriously about getting my Brat back on the road. It really doesn't need anything, just a sticker and registration. And now that Chris has my old GL, I'll actually have someone to go out and have fun with!!! Thanks for postin the pic!!

It would take a sticker with a little bit of BSing that guy in Wiscasset, or the shop I know about in Boothbay that doesn't have a lift...

About the GL. Tomorrow I'll go to napa early and have them order the new front axle. They usually have that stuff in by 1.00, by then I hope I have the old one off I can return it for a free new one! So Jason, good chance I'll have to borrow the puller tomorrow when I stop by, unless I manage in pulling it through myself... I'll try, I have pullers for other things ... We'll see how it goes. If I can't get it I'll just grab the puller.

No prob, I have it here, and I'll be home around 4ish after work. I would honestly wait to get the puller from me until you do it. It makes it so much easier. Just text me whenever.

Alright, I'll still get it to the point where I need a puller, because from there it's pretty much back together. Being the way I am, I'll probably still try to get it myself... But it'll be nice knowing that I can give up and have a better alternative. haha.

New front axle installed! No more click click click click click click ....

Took just under 2 hours for R&R. And would have most likely been a lot faster with air tools ....

Good job!!!!! Wasn't too bad was it?? I think the worst part is maneuvering the axle, and pulling it back trough the hub.

Wasn't to bad at all. Hardest part I think was getting the control arm back into place and getting the bolt back in. Maneuvering the axle wasn't actually to hard. Just had to turn the wheel right and lift the suspension a bit with a jack to get it all to line up nicely.

Overall it was really easy. But I've been sensitized by the rear wheel bearings ...

So tomorrow I'm going to try to tackle the camber. I've done a good deal of reading, and I think I understand exactly what's going on with it all. Except I still don't know why one side has worse camber than the other ... It'll just need a more extreme angle.

If I have a hard time getting it right I've had an idea for adjustable camber lift blocks. So I might employ that idea.

Judging by how much the control arm didn't want to go back on I can't imagine it's going to be very easy to get the strut back into the lift blocks either. So I'd rather not be taking it on and off over and over again ... I'll take pictures and keep updated on how it goes.

The handling would be a lot better if the camber wasn't way off, and it wouldn't eat tires for lunch. I'm not getting new tires with the camber this off, and I can't run semi-bald front tires in the winter ...

Some new wiring before I gave it some zip ties and electrical tape:
