MINI GROUP DRIVE II

Well, its looking like rain for Sunday in the Rangeley area, so I'm going to go ahead and cancel the ride for another date...

Just Lying! Make sure you have your wipers in good working order and don't bother washing your cars on Saturday! See everyone 9am in Auburn on the 21st.

Nicklepage...im heading to Auburn tonight to help my mother-in-law move. you can follow me home after the drive is done though!

Well I talked with Dan earlier. I heard from a few people that byron road is usually snowmobile trail in the winter and in the spring gets washouts. It may not even be open, all the same I have not had the time to check it out to be sure it is safe. This means we will probably be avoiding Byron rd. and rerouting through Rumford. Bemis road I was also hoping on taking but that one is supposedly 1/2 grown in. I have never driven on the southern part of this road so it may well be impassible. I have heard of some other great dirt roads nearby but I have never driven them and therefore I will wait on suggesting them until I have driven them personally later this spring or early summer. I just figured I should let everyone know since this will cut back on actual dirt roads significantly. However because the route through Rumford is faster, we will have plenty of time to take the back way through Madrid, Phillips and Strong in to Farmington. These roads should still have a good deal of gravel from sanding this past winter left on them and they will be beat pretty well in to the ground so it won't be too far off from actual dirt road driving. I just thought I should let you guys know just in case the loss of a lot of the actual dirt makes the trip a no-deal for anyone. We will still see some dirt, the South Shore Road for sure. I hope to see everyone on Sunday, I would not bother washing your cars!

Thanks for the update Ryan. Yeah, the amount of passable dirt for the end of winter was always an issue I had in the back of my mind but I think that we'll be alright. For those of you who wanted an all-dirt ride we're sorry to come up short, but this is still going to be a lot of fun and I hope to see everyone there tomorrow morning!

Well, hope everyone gets a good night's rest. See you guys and gals tomorrow morning....

For those of you who are new to these rides, there is a gas station (Irving I think) right next to the park and ride where we will be meeting tomorrow morning. Be sure to gas up and grab a bite if you choose. We will be making some stops, but nothing too long unless the majority rules. Basically, don't plan on stopping and setting up a grill for some BBQ for this one!

In addition, I know that I said I was going to bring along enough printed route information for everyone, but based on my personal conversations with some of the route planners (Dan and Ryan) along with the posts in this thread, it seems like we might be making some changes on the fly, which is cool. So, we'll have some leaders who know the area and if you happen to be in front and aren't too sure where you're going, make sure you have a walkie!

Irving is right by, and mobile is next to it. Both have convenience stores. Dunkin' Donuts is in the same plaza as mobile. I should be there earlier since I'm pretty damn close to the parknride.

It turns out that we have a dirty group meet planned for the same day. We are going out to the desert tomorrow and rallying around. We've got about 10 scoobys going, should be a lot of fun. I wish you guys luck!

So it looks like my maybe is a definite no. I have a spanish project due monday and none of my friends that I'm doing it with were available to do it today.

Have fun guys!

Too bad you couldn't make this one. Maybe next time and good luck with the project...school first!

Well, it was an interesting drive today and I'm happy with the turn out (6 cars but one had to abandon early into the ride)! We had some cold first day of spring weather, complete with snow, rain and freezing rain and a little sun in the beginning. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it....some interesting pictures are sure to come up on this thread soon!
