SiF Motorsports. A shitty legacy, nearly 10 years of RS racing turned rally car. Bonus jeep and mustnag junk

Now that I think about it, in my area there are some dirt roads near the shop that are perfect for test + tune. Also, what do you have for alignment tools. I was thinking of picking up toe plates and a camber gauge once some funding moved itself around.

Fast trax with the toe attachment.  But you really need do align with strings to get the thrust angle correct.

Wish I was still around to come check out that operation.

Not to mention the new race car I have yet to see!

Loading this slut up with computer equipment to drive around new england for work last week:

Decided to do the rear O2 sensor today to try and get rid of the P0420 code.

Got the o2 sensor socket on and broke my last u joint. Tried hammering the socket around but it wouldn't budge. Heated the bung up cherry red. Broke the bung off. Dropped the exhaust.

Booger welded the bung back on and got the new O2 sensor in:

It actually worked out well, because the shitty rock auto header gaskets were leaking at the cyl head. I had RTV'd them to pass inspection but it wasn't cutting it. Went to the dealer this afternoon to get my snow tires mounted for the RS and get new nice gaskets.

Got the exhaust back on. Welded up one of my broken hangers. Got the new gaskets in. Everything good to go.

Go to clear the code and the legacy didn't want to start. Get it going again and the airbag and ABS lights stayed on longer than normal. ABS light is still on. Didn't do the trick to get the DTCs, but tomorrow I'm going to pull the battery and see if that clears it, then get the DTCs.

Also put the new snows on the legacy and they're balanced fine, just noiser than the DSWs, which are on the RS just to hold it up and to pass inspection. The car looks so boring without the snowflake rims.

Also did this with the android torque app on the way home tonight:

YESTERDAY:

Rick came over yesterday and was a huge help.

STi struts ready to go in.

20130223_134021.jpg

Issue. I didn't have bump stops. I thought I could ream out my stock ones to fit the increased diameter of the STi strut. Nope.

While taking the front strut out. I accidentally tore apart the axle.

20130223_105028.jpg

fudge

Put it all back together because it doesn't matter. Replacement on order for long trips.

20130223_134011.jpg

While taking apart my rear clunking strut.

20130223_120843.jpg

Yeah, that top hat is ovaled.

We put it all back together with the tokicos. We welded a few washers in and re-drilled the top hole. No more oval. Put it all back together and the right side doesn't clunk, but doesn't adjust anymore. Left side now clunks.

Put RTV on the exhaust leak that I can't get the welder to. Belts are in. Took the cluster out. Dad tried to knock out the door ajar, abs, and airbag lights. Got everything but the airbag light out and he screwed up the odo. He's taking it to work so he can do a proper job.

Later on I found out....

The LOVING bump stops are in the LOVING STi strut. I could have installed them.

So next weekend is put STi struts in and shake down.

Should probably update this:

Got the STi struts on. Got the car inspected. Drove it to work, then 2 hours to rallycross. Only had two issues. Throttle stuck open and my brake caliper bracket bent. ChrisGT fixed both issues because I are racecar driver.

Pictures from being a slut at the rallyx.

Suspension started making some noise. The sti stuff is coming off for forester take offs so I can run that while I build up the STi stuff for stage. Still need to put the interior back together and get the car logbooked. Got my decals for  the window + trunk and hood pins. Need to order balljoints and conical washers so I can install the STi arms.

Much to do much to do.

Other stuff from this weekend:

Mustang motor is good! That missing throttle body part didn't go in the motor.

20130323_120352.jpg

Dad also got ARP studs.

Last weekend I got some junkyard upgrades for the legacy. New doorcards, spare grill, oem sub, hella bro-tones. All for cheap cheap cheap.

20130323_122952.jpg

Took the grills off to bend them out straight and de bro them.

De-broing

Sub in. We had to custom wire it because I didn't grab the T harness from the junkyard. I don't care what anyone says, I love this thing. Adds a little extra bump. I'm going to find a second one for under the driver seat.

Also cut the winglets off my spare grill.

20130323_145330.jpg

I've got 10 inches wide, 4 inches (3.5 if I don't hack the raisin out of the bottom of the grill for clearance), and 3.5 inches tall. On each side of the logo. Probably going with Hella FF 450s

Cat:

Subs are pretty bro-ey imo. At least around where I live.

Mega props for getting your hands dirty man. Rallycar is awesome.

Good god that cat is huge.  You'll have all those mods in your signature in no time if you keep this up.  You're becoming what you hate. And I love it.

They paid me to take them away.
Actually? I need a new set for my bike before I do any serious riding (I can put my head in front of them and honk without hurting my ears). I was just going to grab the cheapest horn pair off ebay.
Wait, did you mention a subwoofer? And possibly a second one? That's quite un-Dan-like

I wanted to replace the horns on the legacy because the stock ones are AWFUL. LIke seriously a girls bicycle ringer is louder. I was going to get air horns, but these came up for free.99.

I legit need horns for all the stupid hipsters riding in the middle of the street in portland or people doing 10 under in the left lane on 101 in NH.

As for the sub. I legit listen to a lot of top 40 / rap, so a little extra low is appreciated. I don't need honda civic window rattleing show bro bass, which is why the OEM sub is perfect, again for free.99 its a perfect upgrade for me. People hate on the oem sub, but I like it after I took the time to adjust it right.

So Garrett can get his nut off thinking im ricing my car like he wants, but I'm just using cheap junkyard crap to improve it subtley.

I made a straight pipe with glasspack on the end for the RS. Didn't run it for rallycross because residential area.

Switched to gravels at noon.

Now I need to call the logbook guy. Once car is logbooked, I'm tearing all the suspension out. Doing a pedro spec suspension along with new knuckles with new wheel bearings and studs all around, sti control arms, boxed trailing arms, etc.

Is the suspension still not preforming like it should? I know you were having some issues in the beginning.

It's better now that I'm not running the trash-kicos. The sti stuff is AWESOME. I'm still having some odd rear rotation, but that's more into the "shut up and learn to drive better category", it's fine for logging roads but weird for rallycross. The two don't translate well.
The STi arms with pin trick will get me more castor which will help the car dig in on turns. pedro spec suspension is bracing the housings and sending them off to feel for a revalve, hopefully they survive NEFR.

Boxed trailing arms for strength. New knuckles with fresh timkin bearings and ARP hardened studs. My front left knuckle is actually bent, it's not the brake caliper bracket like we originally thought.

A lot of the stuff is just freshening up with new/tougher parts. Then it's off for some super secret testing.

Blerp derp. Gotta update this.

Changed the thread title to be more inclusive and no im not fixing the mustang typo.

Shirts are in:

Old struts going back on so STi junk can get some love:

I am sending the inserts to FEEL for revalve and Pedro is bracing the housings for me.

IMG_20130421_113039.jpg

We are going with STi springs and sti housings with a revalve. This will be decent enough and should last the rally, but I wont be surprised if I destroy them.

Height will be an issue, but it's a compromise to stay within my budget for this year. Next year since I wont have to buy a cage I'll have more money to work with.

Also really getting tired of working on subarus so mustang work is starting:

IMG_20130427_140500.jpg

And I have to weld the front frame rail back up yay:

IMG_20130427_153450.jpg

Ton of raisin on order. New brakes, axles, tie rods, ball joints, etc etc etc. My spare kit is gonna be pretty healthy.

Damn you sure do stay busy. Btw my roommate Ben showed me what was left of your sisters clutch on the jeep. Smoked would be an understatement.

Damn it, I wanted to see pics. Apparently it was removed with a broom and dust pan.

I'm sure me doing burnouts + her learning stick + previous owner being terrible ended that poor clutch's life. DeGroats did an awesome job. Was so happy I didn't have to do it since I have the RS, the truck, the bike, the legacy, the mustang, and CJ project that all need to be either completed or serviced before the winter. My calendar is retarded.
