The Official MS Bike Talk Thread - motors need not apply

I might have to hit you up on that JCO....... Really like Bradbury, some tough trails, but fun as hell.... By mid summer you will be tearing up that mountain...

I'm moving in May 17, so (almost) any weekend thereafter will be good. I've not yet taken the bike up the mountain itself, just ridden a bunch of trails behind the camping area on the other side of the road.

Anyone been up the hill on a bike? Difficulty?

The ski trail is easy. The boundary trail, not so much.

I rarely go over there on nice weekends- there is more than enough on the non-mountain side to keep you busy!

Anyone up for a fat and lazy urban ride (payson, evergreen cemetery, arboretum, western prom) on Sat?

I would, but I'm driving TyTy's Audi in the Rochester Rallyx. I was just in Baxter last weekend, and I hope that this week's temps have melted the snow on the trails.

If you do go out there, post up about the conditions. I can't wait to get out, but I'm not good enough yet to handle a mudfest.

Who here knows how to adjust gears and stuff well?

My new bike doesn't like to stay in the low gears like 3 - 6 in all 3 of the high gears. The guy that knew what he was doing was out sick, the the guy that was there sucked at setting the bike up.

I'd just take it back to the shop and have them fix it if it's a new bike...

Otherwise, drop the $20 and get a copy of "Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance" or "Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance". Read it... do it. Step by step on how to fix your own stuff so you don't have to rely on a bike shop for everything.

Adjusting the rear derailleur is pretty easy... just takes a little time and patience.

I had my first biff of the season on Saturday... was riding my dad's Specialized Epic back in Pittsburgh and clipped a sawed off tree branch with the end of the handlebar... spun it right around and planted the end of the handlebar into my chest. Ouch. Feels like I may have done some rib damage. EEch.

I bought it at Dicks. The person who set it up didn't sem to have a clue what he was doing...I'm a little leary to bring it back...it might come out worse than when it went in.

Don't know if you're in town tomorrow, but if you want to bring 'er by my place after work tomorrow, I'll take a look at it for ya.

Success! I called Rallyguy down in Maryland this afternoon, got some advice, fiddled, and now she shifts pretty smoothly. No more autoshifting.

I'm busy saturday and probably painting all day sunday... plus I still need to spend a little maintenance time on my mtn bike.

Not really technical at all - the challenge is finding where the different sections link up. I still get lost behind the cemetery every time I ride it

There is one point behind the cemetery that I've only seen one guy clime w/o getting off the bike, and he was a little drunk...so who knows what that means.

time... time... wish I could ride...

Got the new Shimano Ultegra road pedals on the road bike... it's still in the basement on the trainer...

I've been riding my 'cross bike which I converted to a commuter to work a couple times each week depending on the weather. That is... till my BikeNashbar order shows up tomorrow with my new PlanetBike Freddy Fenders and then watch out rain! :headbang:

I don't really enjoy the ride to work all that much, but the ride home is the best.
