The Official MS Bike Talk Thread - motors need not apply

lame. i finally bought a nice mtb and managed to blow out my knee. now i'm probably down for the count until next season

Man... that sucks! Hope you have a speedy recovery. What did the doc say as far as recovery time?

I rode into work yesterday... had to pick up a bag of cat food. The extra 10 pounds of food in the pannier bag made things a little wobbly.

But on the plus side, you have snacks!

I toasted my hip sunday. Not sure what's going on in there, but I'm walking like John Wayne...

I put new cleats on my mtb shoes... i'll probably be walkin' like John Wayne after I tip over cuz I can't get my foot out of the pedal.

^ How often should one perform that particular maintenance? Also, how long will a set of clipless pedals last? Someone told me that you should get new pedals each year. That person is also known for having a large trust fund and no mechanical ability whatsoever.

Every year?! Can I have the old ones?!!

SPDs are a little more tempermental than Times. My last ATACs lasted for 5 years, maintenance free. Over that period, I replaced the cleats 2-3 times...

The best thing you can do for SPDs is keep them clean and lubed. You'll know when they need love. Either you won't be able to get in, or you'll come out unexpectedly. Keep an eye on your cleats, but you should be able to get more than a season out of them. In fact, as the cleat breaks down, they become mated to the pedals in a pretty comfy way....My guess is that you'll need new shoes before you "need" new cleats

I thought my cleats were really worn, but looking at the new ones they really weren't that bad. I had a pair of new ones that came w/ my new ATAC's so no harm in slappin' them on.

Friggin' bradbury is closed again. I'm never gonna get to ride there this year. Every time I have an opportunity to ride & schedule it with momma... closed. wtf.

Yeah, the new management is less rider friendly than Mick was. Which blows.

I understand protecting the trails and i'm all for it... but c'mon... it rained one friggin day... open it up! It's mountain biking... there's supposed to be some mud. I have the bike on the car and the gear all ready just in case... but it looks like i'll be riding SoPo/Cape tonite

I called Bradbury... they're hoping that the trails will be open for the weekend. Keep your fingers crossed. The race is probably goign to get washed out by Hurricane Ike...

If I get cleared to play by the doc tomorrow, I'd be up for a Sunday ride.

I'll need to go in the AM... so keep me posted. I REALLY want to get up there before the race to ride the course and also to scout a good parking spot to setup shop. If it's looking like Bradbury will be open a day next week I may take a day off and just go ride a few laps.

I rode Robinson Woods last night. It was a bit damp but realy not that bad. Seems like a lot of the trails are more eroded than usual.

No love. Doc thinks I have a fracture in my femur. We won't know until the MRI, but I am on strict no running/ riding/having fun until further notice. fudge me!

:BangHead:

Wouldn't that last command fall under the "having fun" edict? Or maybe the "no riding" edict?

Dear God, I hope it wouldn't fall under the "no running" part...

I haven't searched youtube... but has anyone successfully physically cookieed themselves? Not that i'd want to see that.

If it rains tonite, like it's supposed to... bradbury will be closed for another month. wtf.

Weeeeeeeee! I just realized today that my two Niterider lights were shutting off because they were overheating, not cuz I didn't charge the battery for a year! WOOT! The HID lamp was burning for over 2hrs and still had juice left. There's that bit of fine print that one never reads in the owners manual that you need to be MOVING when you use these lights cuz they overheat.

Surprised they don't have aluminum fins on them to keep the temp down. Retrofit?!
