The Official MS Bike Talk Thread - motors need not apply

I've been modding my lights like mad... Had an old VistaLite 15w headlamp that the switch died on and the battery was shot. Ordered up a new battery & switch from http://www.batteryspace.com and now it's as good as new after a bit of soldering, heat shrink tubing, etc.

I also got a new battery from them for my NiteRider classic dual beam. The 12w bulb died so I replaced it with a 15w and a new 5000mAh battery. I get about 1.5hrs burn time at the full 35w, 3.3hrs at 20w & 4.4hrs at 15w. Nutty.

Now if the friggin trails would open...

Am I ready? The friggin' park has been closed every time I have an opportunity to ride! Supposedly it'll be open on Friday for people to pre-ride the course. I plan on heading up then.

Do you still have that frame for sale? If so, let me know the specs on it again.

I do, although I was thinking of building a singlespeed. Kona Kula, 20", Aluminum, double diamond design, disk tabs, purty...

I think I bought it for ~300, rode it for a season. I'll sell it for whatever I said I'd sell it for before. Lemme look...

$150?

I have a buddy who has a frame that's too small. He's looking for a new rig but I donno how much he wants to put into it. He definately needs a new fork cuz his exploded.

It's in pretty good shape, so I'd like to see $225. If you can find an earlier, better price, I'll honor it. I also have a pair of rolf disc urraco wheels and wanna's Hayes HFX brakes I'd sell if this goes.

If your buddy is supersized, may I recommend a Marzocchi? I've had my marathon since 2003, and it had been awesome. You can find some on fleabay pretty cheap.

I just wonder if the 20" is gonna be too big for him too. He's around my size. He's eagar to ride but if building it up is gonna cost a crapload then he'll probably just get a 2008 end of year deal on a complete rig.

Seems everytime I find a bike for sale they're like 17" frames which are gonna be too small... he needs like an 18" or 19".

Yeah, it's tough to find stuff in our size. You might have him ride a 20 and see how he likes it. The Kona has great standover, and a fairly short top tube. An F- series c'dale at cyclemania might be a comp. My bike is in the shop over there too. If you want to meet up this week, we can have him try that as well (21-ish)

It's a tough call. I rode an 18.75 for a couple of seasons and loved it. That said, a 20 just fits me better. If you think that's right, he may want to buy and build over the winter. No better way to learn how to maintain your ride!

I had a 20" DBR Vertex back in the late 90's before I got the 18" Ti frame. I REALLY like the 18" frame. The 20" felt too big for me. But it's hard to tell now with some frames cuz of the top tube length and they're sizing them as S, M, L, XL... or as in the case with my Giant TCR road frame... Medium Long. Haha! Wtf.

Medium long FTW! I got another buddy of mine that was tough to fit on a TCR. He loves it. That's a great frame.

You're right on the sizing. I had a 19" Klein for a season that I swear was a 17. If this guy is on the bubble, size-wise you may want to get him to ride some stuff. Nothing worse than doing a build and finding out the frame is too big/small for you.

I'm gonna get him on my wife's bike which is the same 18" frame as mine. Her's has a straight seapost & a shorter stem. Mine has a laid back seatpost and a longer stem. I think we just need to figure out the cockpit length before we build up a frame.

It was open yesterday - I've spent the last two evenings up there with Corporal Fuzzybutt getting him used to walking the trails off-leash. I'm inching closer to having the official Rage Pup.

BTW, looks like signage is all up for the race - will be easy for folks to follow the course beforehand.

My butt hurts after riding 4 laps at the Bradbury Twelve yesterday. Note for next year... buy new bike shorts before racing...

The race was killer... pre-rode the course on Friday evening at a leisurely pace. I did the first, fourth, seventh & ninth laps for the team... lap times were like 1:06, 1:07, 1:10, and the last lap was a doosie cuz I got a flat about 1.5 mile in... in the dark. Lovely. I finished at like 8:02p so i'm guessing it was about 1.5hr lap. Overall I think we finished about 3rd up from the bottom... but it's not bad for a team comprised of a 34yr old, 50yr old and a 61 year old.

I don't have any pics... no support crew cuz everyone was either busy or sick. There were a ton of people taking pics on the course so i'm sure some will surface.

Awesome Mike, great job... Maybe next year we can get and STM team. Just make sure I am not on it. :laughing1:
