The Official MS Bike Talk Thread - motors need not apply

Bradbury is open! woot!

Rode last night... a friend came into town for work and we didn't leave the house till 5:30p to ride Robinson Woods. Good thing my lights arrived from Pittsburgh because I had just enough time to slap 'em on the handlebars... really start to need lights in the woods after 6p. Thankfully the batteries had enough juice in 'em too... Wish I had time to put the headlamp on because it's really hard to pick out the trail in some spots with just a handlebar light.

Ted - when are you back on the bike???
I'm back now-ish! The doc has cleared me to ride, so it's just a matter of time and coughing up some cash to get the lights going. Both the bike and the body are in one piece. I ran up a BBury today. Totally gorgeous, if a little wet. Great riding!

So...STM Halloween ride? We can work around the kiddies schedules.

I'm also around this coming weekend if anyone wants to get out.

My folks are coming up this weekend so we'll be out and about riding. He's bringing the new 29er. We may do Robinson on Friday night and then Bradbury on Sat AM... probably Sun AM too.

Cool. Give me a call if you want some company. Those sound like great rides!

If you want to get it up and running in a jiffy just take it down to Back Bay Bikes and have them do a tune-up on it. Probably don't need more than a derailleur adjustment & the headset tightened.
Rings and cogs are beat, so I would like to replace them along with cables. And if I can save a few bucks learning how, I am game. If not, I will drop it off at a shop in the spring. My riding is getting limited, don't do the cold. Or should I say, I am not equipted to ride cold. Winter is for drinking beer.. We all know that, then spring is for getting our fat asses back in shape...

Does any body on here build wheels?

or have a truing stand?

I have a bit of a project for the winter once I get the wedding stuff out of the way.

Believe it or not, you can use your frame and a credit card to get a pretty good true. Once you lace up the wheels, toss them in the frame and use your card as a guide. It works pretty well. That's what I did in my poor college days.

Now I have Mavics that are pre-built and don't go out of true (even under my huge load).

hell I have a good assortment of bike/regular tools and heated garage space if you guys want to do a bike tune night. I have only one stand but I am sure you guys must have one.

I have a stand and the full array of tools for most overhaulin... I don't have the tools to work on external bearing bottom brackets & cranks though.

This is what I get to ride this weekend:

OMG that is nice. I need to paint the bathroom. Otherwise I am in!

Puss...

I have friends who remodeled their ONE full bathroom last winter.... he hooked up a make-shift shower out on his back porch and they showered out there all winter long.

My neighbors would love that. As would Ms. Wagon. It would be a long, grungy wintah!

Spirited ride tomorrow (Friday) 0730 Bradbury. I'll have to go to work after, so the pace will be snappy!

Trails were really nice up there this morning. Occassional boggy bits, but not bad. A day worth of drying, and Saturday should be even better.
