The Official MS Bike Talk Thread - motors need not apply

Anyone up for the Cape/SoPo trails or maybe get ShagginWagon to lead another "All Over Portland" ride (less the rain this time) with a stop at that fancy pants beer place downtown?
(Got out for 40 on Monday. Too bad it was the first "real" ride of the season- turned into a multi-mile suckfest....)

Looks rainy this week, but I'm good to go out anyway. Anytime after 5:30 is good for me. Tuesday Urban from Payson?!

I rode to the damariscotta memorial day parade yesterday. Averaged a bit over 20mph.

I really want to get a road bike, I'm sick of riding my mountain bike everywhere.

I'm also building my motorized bicycle... so that will be fun.

I did a 37 mile road hill loop on Sunday and a 6 mile singlespeed ride w/ the kiddo in the bike seat yesterday. Can't make it out tonite and Wed, Thurs, Fri look pretty sucky. Maybe shoot for next Tues (6/2)?

Yup I actually meant Wednesday (it's the new tuesday)

Weather does look rough, but I'll probably try to get out. 6/2 looks good as well!

All this rain is making me angry.

I'm buying a Kenda King of Traction today to stick it to these wet roots and loose dirt.

Yeah, the rain is pissing me off bad. I just finished building my motorized bike too... GRRRR

hokeysmokes! I don't think that'll be a good xc tire... maybe downhill. Gonna be wonky riding that on any hard pack. I've been pleased with the traction of the Panaracer Fire XC Pro tires. Shed mud quite well and have enough bite to go through roots/rocks.

+1 there. I put a set on for this year, and I'm quite impressed as well. Plus, the garish yeller sidewalls are good for about 1.5lbs' worth of weight reduction each

I have panaracer fire and trailblaster on there now and every time i go through wet stuff it's like i have a 4 ton tire all of a sudden. They still have mud on them from my last ride that i hit in the beginning! They do stick well to stuff, but the lugs aren't far enough apart for a back tire when you're powering through mud. The trailblaster is way worse than the fire though. For the cheap price and the lightweight the fires are great tires.

These tires are goofy looking, but I got a 2.35" Nevegal DTC up front and a 2.1" in the King of Traction out back. In person the tire looks a little different, the middle isn't that tall, those big spikes on the only contact if your in loose stuff or are cornering. I'd think it would suck as a front tire for handling though. The compound is designed to grab onto wet roots which is what sold me on it.

I'll let you guys know what I think about it after some tests

Anyone want to ride Saturday morning? My Buddy Brenton and I will be riding. I say SP/Cap or River trails at 9:30.

Jim sell your bike and buy and apron.

hehehe!

I'm out for Saturday... I think we're going out for b'fast and then I have to pick up my Portland Water District rain barrel before 1p.

Sunday AM, weather permitting, i'll be doing a road ride in the AM. Meet at my place at 6:30a for a 30 miler?

For mtb, i'm shooting for Tuesday or Wednesday after work. Either the ShagginWagon Tour de Portland or SoPo/Cape trails. 5:30p...

Tuesday might work, all depends on wifes schedule.. Will get back. More than likely Sunday a no go, we have a wedding Sat night, and I am sure I will take advantage of the bar.

It needs to stop raining, it is supposed to rain all the way to Tuesday!!! I'm friggin sick of the rain... And I have a new bike...

I have a 'customer appreciation' night at the SeaDogs game on Tuesday... free food, beer, seadog biscuits, and the game! Weather will determine if I go riding because I can always stand outside and drink free beer if it's drizzling...
